Afghan community-based theatre practitioner Hjalmar Jorge Joffre-Eichhorn delivered a powerful seminar on his experiences of using the arts in areas of conflict at The Playhouse. The independent theatre artist was in residency with ICAN for six weeks.
During his time in the North West, Hjalmar worked with local professionals in his fully subscribed master class in The Playhouse. Participants learned new methodologies, which they can apply to their own community-based work.
Hjalmar gave a two hour seminar, discussing his work in Afghanistan and his part in founding of the Afghanistan Human Rights and Democracy Organization (AHRDO), an all-Afghan community-based theatre platform in Kabul. AHRDO works to promote democracy, a culture of non-violence and the respect for human rights in Afghanistan.
