Leading South African Artist Aja Marneweck undertook a residency with ICAN during September 2012.
Using puppetry in visual performance, Aja taught interested individuals, artists, youth and community workers, peace builders and creative practitioners, how to use puppetry as a tool to expand their creative languages in a post- conflict society. This methodology will combine body, voice, objects and puppetry to provide an insight into personal narrative.
Aja Marneweck is a multidisciplinary visual performance artist, puppeteer and puppet-maker, producer, academic and director/founder of The Paper Body Collective based in Cape Town. She is also an accomplished performer and puppeteer and has worked professionally with international puppeteers Gary Freidman, Handspring Puppet Company and Janni Younge in Cape Town and Nairobi Kenya.
